Dėdeliškės Petrol Station in Lithuania

Settlement of the asphalt surface at an operating petrol station was corrected using deep geopolymer injection. The height difference was eliminated within 5 hours, with no interruption to station operations.

Problem

The asphalt surface settled by approximately 50 mm, creating a hazardous height difference with the adjacent concrete slab.

Cause

The petrol station was constructed on land previously occupied by a marshy lake. Underlying sapropel and peat layers, covered with fill soil, gradually compressed and shifted under traffic loads.

  • Tire and vehicle damage
  • Safety hazards for customers
  • Progressive settlement if left unaddressed
  • Potential operational disruption

Solution

Targeted geopolymer injections were performed beneath the affected asphalt area to:

  • Stabilise weak subsoil layers
  • Restore load-bearing capacity
  • Lift and re-level the asphalt surface
  • The injection depth reached 1.6 m below the geogrid layer.

Only the immediate working zone was closed; the station remained operational.
